duties
Indeed, a new perfumery year has just started, and guess what: we make samples these days….. This will be the topic of this week in my house: Samples and more samples. Slightly reduced, though; a cold was passing by and my first thoughts January 1 in 2009 were “autsch, my bones hurt”.
Thus, the first impression of things to come in 2009 was not too good on January 1, but then, when sneaking upstairs, in search for a hot coffee, the sun broke through the clouds and the entire world was swimming in gold. I made a wish and now I wait for it to come true.
A few wishes I made true for myself. I got my new computer, replacing my old machine, that started to fall apart and sounded like a tractor built in the 30-ies but without smoke. I did not want to wait until it starts producing smoke, too. Hence, a new one. And before fiddling around with this new magic technology or technological magic I swore to my inner pig that I will first clean up the desk (done), do the 2008 bookkeeping (done) and prepare all Tauer Perfumes stuff for the Swiss taxes (done with tears dripping down and disappearing like bailout money disappears in banks these days).
Talking magic: see Luca Turin’s scent note in today’s NZZ folio. This one I liked a lot, because it made me think in an e-mail conversation on patchuli, that my next fragrance should be simpler, and it made me think in a fragrance I sniffed in Munich a year ago, something called *clean* or so, smelling like Ariel of the seventies, a washing powder scent, that folks love (me too), because it reminds them (us) of moms and a clean youth before we discovered sin and a dirty world without peace. Or so.

By the way, cleaning up the desk is hard work for me. sigh….

Good for you to have the new computer! It will be a big help, and in a year you will be thining “cheap at twice the price.”

Congratulations, Andy, on starting the year off well. Perhaps the hurting bones were a reminder to take care of yourself, even as you take care of all the minutia of running a business and a life.

Glad you got your year off to a good start - I am not as disciplined as you. Barely got my laundry done.
I will owe my governments way too much this year and am not looking forward to it.
I am looking forward to your new scent with some trepidation, as the “fresh”, “clean”, “laundry” type scents are the ones I run from the fastest. If anyone can pull one off that I can at least tolerate, if not actually like, it is you.
Take care of yourself - pay attention to those aching bones and give yourself rest and treats.

Dear Tama
I will, I will…. the laundry, by the way, is an other issue. I remember when I was living alone , some 22 years ago, I had a big, gigantic laundry bag. I would fill it until I ran out of everything and the bag was big like a 12 month elephant. I lived in the 5th floor in an apartment house without elevator….but that’s what you do when you are young and lazy. Now I am getting older but stay lazy when it comes to laundry.
Dear Lucy, thank you. The bones are a memento virus ;-)
Dear Simone, indeed! a brave and spontaneous man. And I am happy , too. The whole story turned out nice, didn’t it? Have lovely evening in raiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny Brasil
Dear Fountaingirl, I wonder, I wonder…lots of talks about deflation, inflation, noflation… but I think for computers it will stay the same (like for cars): Once around the block 10%.
Dear Tatchan
Oh… I can tell you: It is not easy for me too. That’s why I needed a BIG incentive (= new computer) Patience when it comes to clean. Needs some time. Hands still dirty from working ;-)

Dive into those patchouli notes, too! Maybe add a little cocoa & deep spices; not so sticky-sweet (as is the continued fad).Possibly a pair of new scents - clean for day; deep green & warm for the Bleu hour! :-) Stay warm and well!!!

Nice to see you wishes are coming true and congratulations with your new PC! And a clean desk (I wonder how much it would take to make it full again :o)
What’s about your clean rose? Is it ready to blossom? And how is the fleur d’orange doing? Sorry, can’t share your feelings to clean fragrances - I am totally into jasmine at this moment (and the more indolic the better :o) Although - a good dose of “laundry” musks sounds always nice to me :o)
What’s are the plans about Netherlands?

Fragrant greetings to you , Vladimir and I hope that you are fine and can enjoy some white, clean snow. Here it has snowed a little bit, just enough to lighten things up .
Keep warm and well.
Dear AromaX I think I know exactly what you mean…indoles are addictive aren’t they. I must send you a sample of the J. sambac that I got from Essencia. would you mind e-mailing me your address again ?
Dear Hotlanda Linda
wow. Amazing. You produced the key lines of the aqua tenebrae that I mentioned a few months ago here (and on January 6). ..Patch, vanilla, cinnamon, cistus and COCOA!

OMG!! Mr. Andy, the post for the tenebrae was on my birthday!!! Twilight zone, anyone?? :-)

Dear Andy,
Finally I get back to your blog to see how it is going with you and to catch up on things. The new year didn’t get off to a very auspicious start for me either, I was sick also, (and I’m one who NEVER gets sick) and it’s only now running it’s course after lingering for several weeks. Today is the first day I haven’t coughed. I’m not one for the Clean scents either, why bother wearing fragrance if you just want to smell clean, showers work for that, unless of course one doesn’t like to bathe ?
