Background.gifFirst, a big thank you to all who participated yesterday. This is great!

So this is day two of the advent calendar. And after yesterday’s frenetic and many comments, I come up with a little question.

Your comment counts under all circumstances. And -if picked randomly of course!- you will win a sample of the “une rose chyprĂ©e”. But if you answer the question correctly… then you can win additionally a sample discovery set. Again: One winner takes it all…
Thus, here is the question: L’air du dĂ©sert has a little bit of a flower line in its heart. Is it built around:

a) Jasmine absolute from Egypt? or
b) Lavender absolute from Bulgaria? or
c) Mimosa absolute from India?

I love it.. I feel like I am on a game show. But I will have to go with A. Jasmine absolute from Egypt of course. And a lovely one at that. Happy 2nd day of Advent!

  2. surreality Says:

Another day, another chance at winning…

The une rose chypree sounds rather interesting, I’m a big fan of rose fragrances.

Answer to question a)LDDM has Jasmine absolute from Egypt

  3. Ben A Says:

Not to echo what has already been said, but it’s a) jasmine absolute from Egypt. (FWIW, LADDM was my SOTD today and, more than twelve hours later, it still smells wonderful…a real work of art this one!)

  4. Stephan Says:

That’s the jasmine from Egypt, I guess. Yesterday’s response to your draw was indeed very impressive. At the same time the chances to score a hit for us diminishes. I’m sending you some of our heat to warm your winter days.

  5. sunnlitt Says:

Answer:Jasmine from Egypt. This is so much fun!!! And, your new scent sounds lovely.

  6. AromaX Says:

So, Andy - you make not just a fairy tale, but you also give it a twist with a question. You are full of surprises and so are your fragrances ;-)
I’ll choose the answer a - Jasmine ;-) and now it’s interesting to find out if I really can smell it there… exciting!

  7. Joe from California Says:

Thanks for this opportunity, and the very very light heart note is jasmine. These first two days are creating a lot of craving for L’air du desert!

  8. drifting Says:

Ahh.. back to checking this site every day rather than every two or three, and so much to do before the holidays. Darn you Andy, I cannot resist! (oh and Jasmine from Egypt)

  9. sylvia Says:

well im going to say jasmine, not only because its logical and everyone else seems to know the answer, but because it is egyptian, and egypt is closer to morocco than bulgaria or india. :) i’d love to be entered in this drawing!

  10. Mikael Says:

Game on! Jasmine it is :)

  11. Konstantin Says:

well, well, things are getting intersting :-)

It’s Jasmine (you should have made it slightly more difficult, Andy) ;-)

  18. Terje Says:

    Jasmine :-)

  19. Jeff Says:

  20. ambreroux Says:

Hello! L’air du desert features jasmin for sure - I don’t know if it’s Jasmin absolute from Egypt - but that would be my guess. Hope I’m increasing my chances to that marvelous sample discovery set!
This sample draw is just so enjoyable! Thank you Andy!

  21. andy Says:

hehehehe… just a quicky: Yes, Konstantin…. tomorrow we make it more difficult! But we do not want to be too fast and scare folks, right!?
Thank you to all of you who participate. This is so much fun for me, too.
Finally….are you sure about the Jasmine? ;-)

  22. Pamela Says:

    Hi Andy!
Can’t believe it’s that time of year again…
L’air is one of my all time favorites, and it has Egyptian Jasmine in it! Or at least it smells like it does!
Lavender is in your Reverie au Jardin, yes? Also one I wear a lot!

  23. Camilla Says:

Hi Andy! your rose chyprée sound intriguing! I hope I get my answer right: Jasmin absolute from Egypt?
I’m cheating a bit because my nose didn’t get the jasmin note… I did grasp (and love) the maroccan atmosphere though, filled with balsams, resins and amber!

  24. Helen Says:

The answer is … a) I’m wearing ‘L’air’ right now. In fact, since my bottle arrived in the post I’ve been wearing nothing else! I absolutely love this stuff - and get loads of compliments on how nice I smell :-)

  25. Maryla Says:

Hello! L’air du desert contains jasmin note. I really hope to win that wonderful sample discovery set! Thanks Andy for your lovely version of Advent Calendar!

  30. kathryn Says:

Well, the support for Jasmine absolute looks rock (rose) solid!, but I checked the notes to be sure and came up with Jasmine too, as I expected I would…

I am of course deeply smitten with LDDM (and all its associations!). Yet I am also curious about the sampler set to see if there might be anything to top it, or whether LDDM is “der Oberhammer” of the range. Mal sehen….?

  31. Dimitri Says:

Jasmine from Egypt is indeed the flower in question Andy.
I love this interesting little advent idea… thanks Andy :)

  32. Matt S Says:

Ohhh, now it gets really interesting…a quiz show. Jasmine from Egypt. A very fun game.

  33. Gaz Says:

Yes, my guess is Jasmine too. Jasmine has that slightly dry, bitter feel that absolutely compliments the scent.

By the way, Mimosa is one of the ingredients if worn by a woman, I will absolutely swoon for her. ;)

  34. andy Says:

Again…an interesting day full of discoveries for me. I will not be able to comment all but a few….
    Dear Gaz
Olalala… thus , Mimosa is like an swooning elixir for you ;-)

Hehehe, hi Kathryn, thank you for letting this nice German word drop: Oberhammer sounds cool!

    Dear Vladimir
Hugs to you back from sniffing W.-factor :-)!

  35. tatchan Says:

    It’s jasmin, I think.

  36. UMA SRINIVASAN Says:

  37. bee Says:

    hi
well, you do say on your website that there’s a hint of jasmine, so it must be that, an Egyptian one, of course, :-)
the important thing making a perfume that makes you travel in your mind, and that’s LDDM, thank’s again for creating it, let’s see how the rose chyprĂ©e turns out!
    B.

  38. Jean Poole Says:

    Jasmine From Egypt

“A prison cell, in which one waits, hopes - and is completely dependent on the fact that the door of freedom has to be opened from the outside, is not a bad picture of Advent”
    Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  39. david Says:

    A. Jasmine! Thanks for running this great contest!

  48. Fionn Says:

Another wonderful surprise for us to make the day festive!

I will go with the jasmine too.

  49. Eileen Says:

I like the question aspect — keeps it all fun! My answer is a) Jasmine absolute from Egypt.

You got me thinking yesterday about why we give up something during Lent but don’t do anything equivalent for Advent. I’ve decided to try your idea and do something kind for someone every day. It’s a wonderful way to get in the right frame of mind.

  50. Musette Says:

Andy, I’m going with Jasmin, all the way! This is so much fun! Thank you for doing this.

    Happy Holidays!

  51. Torunn Says:

I’m entirely new to your line, but from all that I have researched I look forward to sampling; your scents sound incredibly well orchestrated.
Thank you so much for having an Advent contest; it’s my favorite time in the Catholic calendar- full of hope, and now fragrance! ;]
    See you again tomorrow….

  56. mharvey816 Says:

Jasmine absolute from Egypt…and it smells fabulous!

  57. simone Says:

Jasmine of course….but you never mentioned which kind of jasmine in your site….
    is it a trick question?

So answer A. No need to send the discovery set, you know why…. :-)

    kissy

  61. Juno Says:

Jasmine from Egypt. Such a wonderful companion, that fragrance. It keeps you good company all day.

  62. lunarose Says:

ha! a trick question! i searched your blog and in the comments section of the entry ‘this is the end my friend’ (where you talk about going to 100ml bottles of l’air deu desert strictly, no more 50 ml bottles) you list jasmine from egypt as well as lavender from bulgaria. but i’m guessing you would say that jasmine would be the floral note, and lavender a ‘herbal’ note as the answer to the question. but according to your notes both are in there, and lavender flowers sure have a wonderful smell….and the ‘feel’ of most of the scent to my nose has a lot of the duskiness of the lavender. meh, i just don’t trust me nose!

one way or the other it was so nice to find that list of notes in your beautiful scent. i was sniffing with my ma a few weeks ago and she thought it was gorgeous - high praise from a woman (my mother) with an exquisitely sensitive nose, to the point of pain at times! i’m a beginning sniffer, and it is provocative to compare lists of notes to what you’ve smelled in the garden, kitchen, etc. to a particular scent. thank you again!

  63. Dana Says:

Yes, looks like jasmine absolute is the correct answer. Thanks, again, for entering me in Day 2!

  64. Suzanne Says:

Jasmine, of course! Please enter me in today’s drawing.

  65. RebieFR Says:

    Cher Andy,
    A demain
    Rebecca

  66. andy Says:

    Dear Lunarose
oh.wow. You did a serious , serious analysis! Well…. well. now the question remains: Jasmine absolute or Lavender absolute. there are many forms of lavender (oil versus absolute)….(just giving you a hint…)

And dear Simone: No, no… no trick at all!
    fragrant greetings to you!

    Dear Lauren WB Vermette
Fragrant greetings to you and many thank you’s for your comment. Advent is my favorite time in the year too. I just wished it would be warmer and with more snow and less rain, but this is a contradiction I guess. I love the time of anticipation, of waiting, of hope.

    Dear Eileen
This is wonderful! I am so happy that I could inspire you. This is just great

Dear Jean Poole Thank you for sharing this thought, these lines with us. Maybe one addition to this picture. “but even when the door opens. The step out of the cell we have to make ourselves. Fragrant greetings to you!

  70. Amy H Says:

what fun! My answer is also Jasmine absolute from Egypt. The “from Egypt” part I would not have known, thank you for the teaching moments! LADDM is my favorite one of your scents, it is truly a masterpiece.

    Happy Tuesday!

  73. Midori Says:

I guess I’ll say jasmine from egypt, also. . . Happy day 2!

  74. Robert Says:

Jasmine it must be. (I looked it up on Luckyscent.)

I just got a sample of Lonestar Memories from The Perfumed Court; haven’t had a chance to try it yet (because I got so many other samples at the same time) but I have a feeling it’s going to be my kind of thing.

  75. Melissa Says:

  79. Silvia Says:

Hi there everybody!! Now, isn’t this a great idea!!! :)

Just found the link to this over Now Smell This…as I’m german, my mother always had an “Adventskalender” at home…been some years now since I saw the last one!! Ok, I did love the chocolates, but perfume would be even better!!
    Ummm..I’d say Jasmine too!

  80. monkeytoe Says:

    a) Jasmine absolute from Egypt

    Happy December 2nd!

  81. 2scents Says:

This is a delightful stop on the day’s path. I think that lavender would not fit into that composition and mimosa might get lost in it, so…Jasmine it is. Thanks for the fun!

  82. Kristin A-T Says:

I’m guessing a) Jasmine absolute from Egypt.

And today’s holiday is the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery! Yay!

  83. Noalee Says:

Jasmine absolute from Egypt! Of course!

  84. ScentScelf Says:

Jasmine absolute!! What fun…though I did pout a little bit, since I happened to miss the first day, and I check in most days. I’m here, I’m here!! :) (The good news is, we started the advent calendars at home, so all is well.)

I love how industrious Lunarose has been…

  85. mijitamaggi Says:

Great question, though honestly, I can’t imagine what you would do with mimosa. I love the powderiness, and the way it pairs with the leathery Cassie flower. But I can’t imagine you doing mimosa. But I’d love to smell the rose you are working on. It’s true, it’s very difficult as a note, but so is Orris as a dominant, and you did that incredibly. MJ

  86. Chris V Says:

I’m going to go with A - Jasmine absolute from Egypt

I love this Andy! Thanks for the holiday fun!

  87. Kate Says:

It has to be the jasmine. I’ve just ordered a sample of l’air de desert so I can smell it for myself later in the week. Very much looking forward to it!

  90. rosenrot Says:

I missed my chance yesterday, but today I’m in!
Love rose, love chypre, so I’ m very exited!

Oh and the answer is a) - I took a peek at your website, unfortunately never having smelled L’air du dĂ©sert marrocain…

  91. Lucy Says:

Only the second day of December, and already the month tries to shape its self in undulating waves of emotional highs and lows. Where yesterday was bright, today is darker. And then a breath of something comes through a most unlikely place, from the metal, plastic and waves of impossibility that now make a web across the world. It is a memory of twined rose and jasmine, delicate as a mirage. Ah yes, Jasmine, floating here from Egypt, by way of Europe and dreams, that flower which can quicken a woman’s blood. And even thus, diluted by memory and space, it is enough to set this day aright. Thank you.

  92. Natalie Says:

Although, like just about everyone else, I think it’s the jasmine, I’m going to say LAVENDER just to be different!

  93. Jamie Says:

Yes, the jasmine absolute from Egypt. I’m wearing L’air… today. As I am from the desert - Utah, it absolutely makes me feel at home every time I wear it. Thank you, Andy.

My favourite floral note : jasmine!

  95. Anna Says:

    I’ll go with Jasmine!

  96. Kristine Says:

i’ve sampled l’air once at aedes, and jasmine really comes out on my skin, so i’m guessing it’s jasmine (crossing my fingers!). thanks :)

  97. Tara Mansfield Says:

    Another try. This is fun!

    Congratulations Kim!

  98. Tara Mansfield Says:

Opps… I forgot to answer the question.

    Jamine absolute from Egypt.

  99. Michele Says:

This feels a little bit like cheating because of the many responses, but I will also go with the Jasmine; Thanks!

  100. Aleta Says:

    A) jasmine absolute

  101. Patricia Says:

Lavender, I love it: Wore it in Marroco last month :)

  102. Laura Says:

    I think it’s Jasmine…. Great idea for a competition!

  103. Karen Says:

Jasmine absolut from Egypt. Mmm. The slim possibility of winning a favorite perfume keeps my heart leaping.

  104. Heather Says:

Sure seems like it’s the jasmine, been too long since I’ve had it grace my wrists.

  105. Violet Says:

Dear gentleman, the answer is A) jasmine!
Thank you for letting us share your world.
    All the best!

  106. Sbrownsf Says:

Jasmine: It’s unanimous. I go with the crowd.

  107. Lucy2 Says:

    Happy Christmas Season,

Okay, I have never had the opportunity to try your scents, but, from what I’ve heard, this smells of labdanum. Like a dry wreath, burning a beautiful incense, yet I know you’ve envisioned the Marakkesh Desert. Hmmm…I know the consensus here is Jasmine Absolute, and you work with the finest materials, and Egyptian Jasmine is to die for…yet your remark about the different types of Lavender interest me. I’ll go with the Egyptian Jasmine Absolute because Jasmine is a new love.

I feel like I’m betraying my old friend Lavender and I hope you’ll share with us your opinion on whether or not these Absolutes are from the best location. Is there a Bulgarian Lavender ~ do you think it is the choicest? How about the Mimosa? Another question for you ~ what form do you think is the best for each of these? I know these are your opinion and that it can depend upon harvesting, different storms from year to year, but I’m just curious. Also, which of these can be aged and aged well?

I should probably only ask two questions the second day. :) O and one funny thing ~ your spam killer ~ I almost just put the equation in, rather thank follow the directions and add the numbers.

    Thanks for the fun,
    Lucy2

  108. sweetlife Says:

    Jasmin! Jasmin!

This is so much fun, Andy. I’ve never done an advent calendar before.

  109. Anne Says:

Of course the heart of L’air du désert must come from the Land of The Pharaohs. The answer is the jasmine absolute from Egypt. Good luck to all.

  110. Aparatchick Says:

    Oh, a quiz!

I’m going with jasmine, and I congratulate Kim on winning yesterday’s prize. L’air is exquisite.

  111. Marietta Says:

Jasmine is my favorite floral scent. i always buy a small star jasmine plant at the garden center each spring. it doesn’t last long in Minnesota.

  112. Morgan Says:

    Jasmine it is!
I confess I do not “get” much flowery parts at all in LAdDM, but I love it nonetheless. I’m going rapidly through my sample, so I’m eyeing that sample set to hold me over until FB-day!
Wonderful idea for an advent, Andy.

  113. Divinemama Says:

Love the new twist Andy! Um, let me think now…could the answer be Egyptian Jasmine?!?

I will be sampling Une Rose Chyprée whether I win a free sample or not.

Prosperity and peace blessings to all!

  114. Lenore Says:

Jasmine of Egypt is the answer. I had my first too days in my normal chocolate advent calendar.

  132. jeudi Says:

So sad I didn’t win yesterday, now I will have to add L’air back onto my Christmas Wish List. I’m wearing a sample of Le Maroc pour Elle today for comfort and I feel better already.

Answer to today’s question must be Jasmine.

I would also put the answer to today’s question as Jasmine absolute from Egypt.

  134. Kelley Vandiver Says:

Jasmine of course. Please enter me again!

  137. Kim Says:

    Jasmine absolute!

  138. andy Says:

    Dear Jeudi
I thank you for putting l’air du dĂ©sert marocain on the list again. But -even if you can only win samples today- do not give up, please. There will come more bottles….

And a big thank you to you, Wayne! and fragrant greetings to Australia, the home of kangaroos that I love so much!

    Dear Marietta
I fight the same fight here in Zurich these days…hoping I manage to bring my plant through long winter montsh!

    Dear Lucy
I thank you soooo much. What a lovely, thoughtful, comment of yours and how poetic. I appreciate very much.

    Andy,

But of course, your beautiful and refined use of Jasmine absolute from Egypt
