Rose again

Highlight this weekend: Sniffing in the Storchenbar, downtown Zurich, with my Vero from Vero Profumo. Thank you Chaya for providing us some input!

Another highlight: I diluted a test aliquot of the rose chypre fragrance that I will show December 13 at the Scent Apéro in Zurich. This rose fragrance is finished (meaning: I have the formula…) since months (indeed , I showed it the first time this April in Los Angeles) and I made a stock for 500 ml eau de parfum. This stock should go into dilution in the coming weeks and I wanted to test it first.
Yep: Yummieh! Of course, I am totally biased when it comes to roses on a chypre base.
I will give away samples of the rose fragrance December 13 and in order to do so, I named the scent to “Une rose chyprée) which is exactly what it is. And I came up with a motive for the sample flyer that I design like my other sample flyers. You see the motive below.
Another highlight: The sunrise this morning was absolutely spectacular. A pink sky, the alps as zickzack line. wow!
UneRoseChyprée100.gif Picture for the ” Une rose chyprée”: This is the picture that I will use for the samples of the “Une rose chyprée” scent. I will give away samples of this fragrance at the Scent apero in Zurich.

I am happy to see that you are really tic tackin’ quickly since you arrived from the US.
    I loved the doodled rose.
Do you have a name already?
I will love to try it…

    kissy

    Good morning Andy,

I love the simplistic style of the rose illustration… it also speaks of a scent that unwinds and unfurls slowly. I’m sure it is a beauty!
Many salutations to you for a safe and rewarding week!
    Dimitri.

  3. Marianne Says:

    Good morning Andy,

This is some hypnotic image… spiralling into… a rose..!?

Almost an optical illusion, so then what will it be to the nose..;)

I’m having a slow start on this monday morning.

    Marianne.

Dear Andy, is the same rose chypre sample 25% - which I have received in the spring?
    It was excellent!
Or it is the changed version?
Very much to like me this picture is can have some semantic values simultaneously.

Dear Andy, nice to see that another fragrance is coming. And it’s time to think about the suitable dress and name for your Rose. The picture you suggest is nice - simple, abstract and intriguing. But… I can’t connect it to your “Une rose chyprée” - too white and “clean”, too abstract, the lines are too sharp and it doesn’t reflect to the Chypre Rose image in my mind. Although - it could be a very good illustration for your next “clean” rose - those two I can connect (even I haven’t smell this one yet).

“Une rose chyprée” is more classic and more stylish in my opinion. Notice that you use the elegance of French for even for a sketch name. In my imagination “Une rose chyprée” needs colours like dark red, red and honey-yellow or creme, soft lines or even to be based on blurred semi-tones and to be less abstract (more natural) representation of the Rose. But it’s my own impression…

I don’t remember your Rose very well, but I do remember that two of my impressions were “very dark red” and “deep”. My impression about Knowing (another Chypre Rose) is - dark rose petals slowly sinking in honey… Once I told it to a fellow blogger who was making a picture of Knowing. She made the next picture for me - http://galka204.livejournal.com/278203.html#cutid1

Well, Andy, enjoy the nice period of choosing name and suitable picture for your rose. And thanks again for sharing ;-)

  6. simone Says:

On second thought, i totally agree with Aromax.

  7. Marianne Says:

This image is a Mondriaan Rose. ;-)

  8. Andy Says:

    Dear AromaX
Just a short reply (thank you !!!), as this is important:
I do not plan that this is a new fragrance coming shortly.

I do not think I will launch another fragrance that quickly. If-at all-! then it would be in a year or so. And it is not clear to me yet in which form….

In that sense, the picture is less critical ;-)

    Dear Simone
I think , I will think about Aroma X’s thoughts, together with you ;-)

    Dear Vladimir
Yes, it is the same fragrance (I think!) but in a different concentration. 17.5% ! I found 17.5% to be better, bringing out the fine rose notes better. …

    Dear Dimitri
Thank you! I wish you a lovely week, full of fragrant delights
I especially love in your comment that you like the “simplistic style”. This was my line of thought, too. I wanted a very simple image, that I can also use on the invitation flyer (I was not happy with an earlier picture)

  9. AromaX Says:

Indeed - it has something similar with Mondriaan Rose ;-) But I think it should be more squared to match though…

What a pleasant change of mind, Simone ;-)

Andy, what do you think about a finishing touch as a couple of dried rose petals “left” in the box where you’d pack your rose?

  10. Andy Says:

    Dear Marianne,
I am sorry to read that your start in this week was not so good, or at least slow… although slow can be good, but maybe not on Mondays.
I wish you a speedy afternoon and a fabulous sunset!

  11. GalileosDaughter Says:

Ah, dreaming of chypre roses now….

The image is very compelling. It reminds me of a labyrinth, which as you know can be a method of meditation, reflection, and enlightenment.

  12. Andy Says:

    Dear GalileosDaughter
Nice to hear /read from you . indeed, there is an association to a maze in the picture! I am glad you like it and that you do not associate “getting lost”, despair, no-hope,….

    Dear AromaX
The dried rose petals is an interesting idea, that would fit nicely with a rose fragrance;-)
Even better: dried rose buds. you can get them easily and they look wonderful and even smell a little bit . I guess I could pump them up by soaking them in Phenylethylethanol…..

  13. zeram1 Says:

    Andy,

I love your interpretation of the rose. So was the original version higher or lower in concentration than 17.5%? If it was originally lower, do the other notes get enhanced to the same degree as the rose note, when you increase the percentage?

  14. AromaX Says:

Was I too enthousiastic? No Rose Chypre launch yet? Stoßseufzer… ;-) And about the fact that you are not sure if it will be launched at all… let’s ask your W.-factor first ;-)

Rose buds soaked in PEA? Very curious how it will work. I’d consider an addition of Eugenol and may be Vetiver and Rosone. And a couple of more additives and we are speaking about how to convert PEA into a Rose base ;-).

Good luck with your preparations for apero!

  15. RebieFR Says:

    Cher Andy,
    Admirativement
    Rebecca

  16. andy Says:

    Dear Zeram1
Fragrant greetings to you! indeed: The samples I showed in Los Angeles were higher concentrated and the difference is interesting….
If you go lower, the top notes and the middle notes (the rose) are clearer visible, not lasting longer, but the room they have is larger in a sense. In my nose it is as if the basenotes are more dominant if concentrated higher.
of course, you may like this effect. And it is small nuances to be honest. The difference between 10 and let’s say 25% would be more drastic.

    Dear AromaX
I can promise to you : The W.-Factor shall be heard. To be honest: I love this rose fragrance. very much. But then: Hey…there is time to do things right…..
One step after the other, slowly. In order not to walk anaerobically ;-)

And ultimately: Eugenol and rose is (almost) always yummie!

  17. andy Says:

  18. Ben A Says:

I like the simplicity of the name and the image, Andy. A bit disappointed that this won’t be seeing broader circulation sooner, but as long as it gets out eventually I’m sure it will be worth the wait!

  19. andy Says:

    Good morning to you, Ben!
I am happy you like it in its simplicity. About the broader circulation: Yep. I know… But I will need some time to optimize internal processes, and getting ready for another point of sales in Europe….

  20. benvenuta Says:

Rose chypre! Now that`s temptation. I love both roses and chypres and keep looking for MY rose chypre. For some reason I perceive this particular combination as more personal than other scent categories and for this reason I don`t wear some of perfectly lovely rose chypres that I admire but they don`t work for me - like Agent Provocateur or L`Arte di Gucci. Oh my, rose in a chypre!
