25 percent
Yep, 25 % more for Kephalis. That’s what I learned when I got the bill for my last shiped order from my preferred supplier of essential oils.
Chandler Burr said (in The perfect scent) that Kephalis smells like “brown butter plus shag carepeting”, I would more go for woody amber with a green undertone and the comfort of a male chest, of a 25 year old, freshly washed with unscented glycerine soap, not too hairy. Or something like it. There is a touch swet skin and sweat in Kephalis that makes it more than your average woody amber scent. I like it a lot.
And one of these days I want to go for a Kephalis -Â Stemone- undecavertol (woody-amber chest leaves) line in a fragrance….
Anyhow: 25% more per kilo; and I got a letter from them telling me that the market for essential oils and fragrant molecules is upside down, low harvests, more expensive logistics, increased demand. You name it.
Not that it would bother me too much. This piece of information just tells me that when it comes to demand of fragrant oils we are far from being in a recession right now. It is just another stone in a larger picture, together with more expensive boxes, ribbons, packaging material etc etc. you get the message.

Dear Andrea, ;-)
I have a colection of those stones I picked in Israel. I also have pictures that look like this one!!! I will send them to you.
The comment Burr made - sounds like him indeed.
Maybe you should look for another supplier? You might find pleasent surprises…
anyways, I think I love the name Cris, but it is not very Jewish…you know Christ, Cristina, Cris… I am Jewish, so Cris won´t fit unfortunatly…. :-(
BUT She is adorable, I got to know her.
We spent almost 2 hours on the phone…
Kisses,
Simone.

Dear Simone
hehehehe…andrea is quite close….
Looking for suppliers is difficult because of certifications that I need. Most suppliers do not provides sufficient certificates and then I am happy with them. We have a very good business relationship. They are more than fair …. no reasons for worries, but there is a message…

Dear Andy, for me зто not cheerful news is is a disturbing signal?
Whether it means, what the price of all aromas will go upwards?

Dear Vladimir
It is not cheerful, indeed. Your conclusion is right. I am trying to compensate some price increases by ordering larger amounts but there are limits. But no reason for worries….Whatever I do: I will do it moderately.

And those of us in the U.S. can, for once, be happy that you’re pricing things in Swiss Francs, since the dollar seems to be strengthening as the world economy goes down the tubes!

Dear Ben
I hope it will stay like that for a while. It looks as if the world is quite confident that the US is getting out of the mess faster than we and others.
I just hope that things won’t get as messy as they are predicted (by some)… But then: I don’t think it will affect the niche in a niche in a niche perfume business. Too much niche…

You made me very curious to Kephalis… Fortunately I can order it at Jan’s place (supplier of some aromachemicals in small quantities in Netherlands).
Thinking about your previous entry and making the link to this one… Is it Kephalis that you use in a base for your Xmas soap??? ;-)

Dear AromaX
I am glad I could make you curious. I ‘ll bet you will like KEphalis, too. But when it comes to the soap I can tell you that now: No Kephalis in there!
By the way. I just got another invoice for another order. There I have some items where the kg price doubled and tripled since half a year…
