prototyping and abacus remix looping

Having packed and sent two big fat parcels off this morning, packed a few Le Maroc pour to cope with complete depletion of stocks, and worked on the bottle sticker for Vetiver dance: Need for something pumping …. Abacus Remix of “getting together” by Nigel Hayes in endless loop. Kind of reminds me in PhD days in a lab called E62; you know…the “good old days” with lots of bacteria swimming around, radioactive Sanger DNA sequencing and more life threatening goodies.

So here you see something like a prototype of the label for the Vetiver dance bottle. I will do some thinking on it while boxing more le Maroc….
Prototype Vetiver Dance (picture: Prototype of sticker going onto bottle of Vetiver dance)

In the mean time you may want to read Dimitri’s first impressions on his Sorcery of Scent blog.

And here you can listen to the Abacus remix (number six) for 30 seconds. Enjoy.

    Hi Andy,
I got the vetiver sample yesterday, thank you so much!

    Andy,

I got my sample of Vetiver Dance–what a lovely name–this morning. We’re having air quality issues here in California, but hopefully my sinuses will be up to tying it soon. Thank you again for your generosity and here’s to another three years blogging.

  3. andy Says:

    Dear Ling
Thank you for letting me know. Enjoy and have a nice day!

    Dear Telesilla
Thank you for your note and the compliments on the name. Feels good!

    I think it looks lovely-
    Spare, eloquent.

After all is said and done- you’ve got to go with whay resonates with YOU.

    Love you !

  5. Dimitri Says:

    Andy, the bottle looks phenomenal!
I very much like the clean vetiver stripes to the right. Very stylish and understated.
I do hope the blog of my first ‘olfactory fandango’ with Vetiver Dance is appropriate to your hard work and efforts.
    Many continued successes, Andy!

    Dimitri.

  6. Marianne Says:

Andy, I fully agree with Dimitry and couldn’t have said it better than him.

Andy, just wanted to thank you and let you know that I received my sample *really* quickly (and I live in Canada, the country dreaded by all those who mail perfumes!). I am so very, very impressed by the scent. I am not what Luca Turin calls a “black chocolate” or straight vetiver fan, and so I appreciate how much complexity you have built into what is still a very direct scent. Like L’air du desert marocain and Lonestar Memories, I find it instantly gripping. This vertiver is art, truly, some of your best work, and I feel very gushy about it, obviously! Whatever label you put on it, I will purchase it. I do like the simplicity of the label design, particularly the grey blade and olive-coloured top and side bars (almost wonder if the very vivid green grass could be greyed out a little?)

  8. Sabina Says:

Love it! How refreshing the bottle looks (and with 96% Luftfeuchtigkeit here this morning, refreshing is just what I need).

I’ve been out of the loop and delighted to hear about your new scent via Elena’s evocative writing. I’ve been a fan of vetiver since my hippie days when I would annoint myself with the essential oil. Since I grew up into niche fragrances, I have not found a scent that marries the clean, airy quality of the oil to the earthy, gourmand elements. So many vetiver fragrances seem, in reality, to be afraid of vetiver and use other notes to interfere or mute its essential character (”don’t encourage her!”). I can’t wait to try it and to hearing more about the new scents, especially the rose!

    Have a wonderful holiday Andy.

  11. Vasily Says:

The bottle looks really great, and I’m doing my own little Vetiver Dance after reading Dimitri’s blog! Great label, great name. Reading the name “Vetiver Dance” makes me happy. I’ve purchased a bottle of Guerlain Vetiver for this summer, having fallen in love with all things vetiver and orris this season. Maybe I’m reverting to my long-ago hippie days or otherwise getting back to my “roots” (hah!) … I am letting my hair grow out longer lately. Really looking forward to trying your take on vetiver when it finally comes out, and many belated congratulations on your three-year anniversary!!

  12. TRex Says:

    Oooooh, pretty!

    Want, want, WAAAAANT!!!

How long is it again until October?

  13. andy Says:

    Good morning, Dimitri
I just order the bottle stickers. Thank you for your supportive comment!

    Dear Marianne, thank you!

    Dear Erin
Sorry to hear that the Canadian postal service took so long. But you really seem to like it a lot and I thank you very much for your supergreeeeen compliment. By the way: The color will fade slightly anyhow when the bottle is filled with juice.

Dear Sabina, wow…96% is a lot. That’s basically rain ;-)

Dear Eelriverrose, sorry that you missed it. There will be more coming later and until October is not too far anyhow. It is indeed much closer than we think..

    Dear Vasily
Thank you and welcome to the late reverting hippies club ;-)
Dear TRex, just a few days (about 80 or so) ….

  14. Jeff Says:

Wow! Today i got this already named vetiver! It’s the first time i ever try pre-sniff - so interesting! And i’m wondering what will u add to the final version? Will u change it? :)

  15. andy Says:

Dear Jeff, no changes, no, just maybe a better maturation when going larger scale.
    Fragrant greetings to you.

  16. Michelyn Says:

I love the bottle label design, but I am also intrigued by the lost culture of the javanese people. Their language and history is almost eradicated. Somehow i would love the name to be a tribute to this. I emailed you privately
either way I recieved the fragrance, its wonderful, and the drydown is amazing

  17. telesilla Says:

I really like the bottle design and today I finally got a chance to sniff and review the fragrance itself. I like it quite a lot–my long, rambly review is here: http://telesilla.blogspot.com/2008/07/and-now-for-something-completely.html

  18. andy Says:

    Dear Telesilla
I have to make a post backlink on your review …thank you so much!… andy off, making post…

  19. Suzanne Tison Says:

Thank you so much for the sample! Vetiver Dance is gorgeous, and I’m looking forward to buying a bottle when it comes out.
