Dear Andy, I has voted for a shadow, and it is good to shade lateral faces of a bottle still. You have received my letter with result of discussion?
June 11th, 2007 at 8:49 am
I hesitate between “Writing” and “Shadow”. Ultimately I think that “Shadow” is catchier. Couldn’t it be possible to put the handwriting on the “shadow” bottle? Or again, if the original picture of the cowboy could be reproduced in black and white it would look nice too.

Dear Vladimir
I got your mail, read it very quickly yesterday morning and thank you! I found it inspiring and the shadow is partly inspired by it.
And now… a busy day ahead. Thank you again very much!
Dear Marie-Helene
hehehe..combining might work, but I think I keep it to these four options. Otherwise, things will become somewhat too combinatorial.
Fragrant greetings

Like M-H, I’m torn between the writing, and the shadow…but went for shadow, in the end.
I think it’s more iconoclastic, like both yourself, and the scent.
Stinky kisses to you, beloved.
June 11th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Stinky kisses back (somewhat frankincense loaded): Ah…thank you! Without interfering…I have my favourite….

Hi Andy, I go for the ‘WRITING’, simple but very nice. It also doesn’t tell if it’s a men’s or a women’s fragrance this way, something I think is a good thing, so everyone can decide for themselves if it’s meant for women or men.
June 11th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Thank you, Jenny. Token taken and if things go on like that … but it is really thrilling to see how the vote goes here and there! I never thougth that this could be so much fun. I check the numbers every hour….. (back to the results…)

I voted for Writing.
It’s neutral-gendered, elegant, minimalist, non gimmicky, looks hand-made.
It fits your line I think.
June 11th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
I voted for ‘classic,’ but *would* have voted for writing had the font been slight smaller (just the teeniest bit!). I like the Writing font :)
btw, Andy, was it you that just commented on my blog?
(feeling slightly giddy!)
June 11th, 2007 at 6:32 pm
Dear Helg
Thank you for your vote. I think the neutral-gender issue is important. This is a point that I have not take enough care the last two years. At least the Maroc pour elle is very gender oriented. the name, the picture…and yet: It turns out that it has its male fan club. (in the sense that they wear it, very well indeed).
But now… back to check the results again..it is sooo exciting!
June 11th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
Hi Andy,
I voted for the shadow, though I like the font in ‘Writing’ as well..(I love shadows, don’t you? -they are such elusive and interesting things..:))
June 11th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Dear Arhianrad
Yes…it was me. I know what you felt like…The reason why I never posted pictures about the scent apero 3 weeks ago….I forgot to bring the old camera’s microdrive! Arrgh. I have your blog on my bloglines MyFeeds… and I couldn’t resist commenting once…
Greetings from behind the screen, watching the bars going up and down on the vote….
June 11th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Dear Lavanya
Thank you for your vote! Shadows …yes! Writing…why not! and the head seems to get out of the game anyway…
I like to take pictures of shadows…like the joshua tree’s shadow in one of my (long time ago!) posts on Joshua Tree.

You know, I’ve decided to renege on my ‘classic’ vote after all, in favor of the ‘writing,’ once and for all.
The ‘writing,’ while not gender-specific, is a bit romantic to me. Like, old-fashioned letters written or read by the fireside, either to a cowboy or from one. Sepia toned.
June 11th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Andy, I voted for the classic last night because I was in a minimalist mood. But I like the writing also. Arhianrad is right that it is a bit romantic. It is also evocative. That’s another thing I liked about the classic: It evokes different images in people’s heads. They can supply their own associations, and that’s what a lot of perfumery is about. I’d be careful about making it too gender-specific, which the cowboy does. It’s fun that you’re doing this poll–and, oh, so very trusting. :-)
June 12th, 2007 at 12:26 am
I’m thinking that the writing with a tint of B/W cowboy at about 3 or 4 % would look really cool.
However the bottle turns out, I will buy it. The scent is a classic and I’m speaking for my self.
It’s a top 10 winner, no matter what anyone else says, it’s unique and I think it’s inspirational.
June 12th, 2007 at 10:10 am
The Writing is IT! Somehow, it evokes a more distant past than today’s macho ranch cowboy. Think Jude Law in Cold Mountain.
June 12th, 2007 at 12:21 pm
Dear Maria
I trust you and all of you very much. At the end, it is not really for me that I want to make the label new….Well, maybe this is not entirely true: I like to move a little step further and stop printing the lonestar memories label myself. The printed label that I use on the l’air du désert marocain and the Rêverie au jardin and soon the le Maroc are more resistant to ethanol and just look better
Dear Kemsey
Thank you for your vote!I think it looks as if the writing will be it. Indeed!
Dear Gary Fredrick, thank you too for your compliments. I appreciate a lot.

I voted for the Classic. “Writing” seems to be very popular, but forgive me for saying so - I think it looks as if it belongs in an entirely different price range… Too frilly and fluffy for the scent, or the brand. A similar “handwritten” label could work very well I think, if it was just a little “rougher” and looked more like an old, yellowed letter with faded ink… But why change what’s working? The Classic is fine! Minimalist enough, yet the red lettering catches the eye. My second favourite is the Shadow.
You know, I might like Writing better if the picture quality was different. The perfume has such a nice colour on the Classic, while it’s so yellow it looks almost poisonous on Writing. If the liquid had the colour it has on the Classic picture, and the ink was not quite black but more dark brown, I think I could like it. But I don’t like the black border underneath the handwriting - I think it looks very contemporary and “hard” and clashes with the romantic style.
June 12th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
Oh by the way - if you change the label design, when will it be? I think I might have to get my hands on one of the old bottles before it’s too late… ;)
June 12th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
I voted for Shadow, even though Writing is very elegant and gender-neutral. I like the unabashed kitschy-ness of the cowbow motif. It really sets the bottle apart, whereas the Writing one makes me think “just another niche perfume”.
June 12th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
A further general comment: isn’t a good-looking cowboy great on a perfume bottle for women anyway?
June 12th, 2007 at 3:15 pm
Although I loved Shadow’s kitschyness, I ended up voting for Writing because of its elegance and the way it romantically evokes another time and place for me. I think you’ve got a great label here no matter which you choose!
June 12th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Dear Solander…I think the trend is quite clear now. And I guess it won’t be the classic design. But then…. this is democracy ;-)
The change will for sure take a while and there still is some stock. Maybe for X-mas? There is no need to hurry!
Dear Suzy, brave you are! I like kichyness too, but I think it is always a very thin line… what may be kitch for you and me might be offending already to others.
ah well…
Dear Vasily, thank you! I think I could live very well with the writing (or any other…)!
Dear Marie-Helene, now that’s a tricky issue and this was quite debated on basenotes! Greetings to you
June 13th, 2007 at 4:20 am
Hmm… I’m torn between the minimalist yet elegant Classic and the subtly evocative Shadow (Head is much too obvious). The Writing I would have preferred in a less romantic font, perhaps a (relatively) slightly tongue-in-cheek Wild West font?
But what do I know, not having tried the scent :-D
*jumps for cover*
June 13th, 2007 at 7:26 am
Dear Dusan
Thank you for your vote! o la la…then it is about time to try it ;-) No reason to cover, though. Maybe your vote is even more valuable as you are guided solely by visual aesthetics…greetings from Zurich
June 13th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
I voted shadow as well. I think it’s the most unusual one.
June 13th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
And you, dear tmp00, were probably the last vote…. Thank you! I waited for you and now it is closed….
June 20th, 2007 at 6:03 am
Hi Andy, I know that voting is closed, but I HAD to add my two cents (funny American phrase from the old days) –
Writing + Shadow, why not? The shadow of a cowboy is romantic to EVERYONE! In every country, no? I look forward to seeing the final product, and wish you all the best! XXX

Thank you , Wendy!
