Maybe I should take things more seriously

hehehe…

I will make a poll, in a couple of days, but first I need to finish some things. Ok, some of you know already: When it comes to bottles, I take things the easy way…what matters most is what goes into it. But nevertheless…Next year I want to approach some more shops and then, a at least somewhat somehow decently labelled bottle makes sense.

When posting the prototype flacon picture for Lonestar Memories the day before yesterday, I did not really expect the following discussions. I love it and starting my morning with basenotes put a smile on my face. Click here to follow the debate that features some quite funny posts.
Thus, I realize that there is an issue on what I find funny in terms of labels, there is an unisex issue and then there is simply a question of taste.

Now, as said before: The soup is more important than the plate; and the BOTTLE is fixed anyway (my standard bottle). We are talking only about the picture that goes on the sticker that goes on the flacon.

But, I could make this whole Lonestar memories picture on the bottle a polling issue. That’s what I thought when grabbing for the old design bottle this morning before running out of the house.

Why? -> Because it is fun! Lonestar Memories-old-design-picture on the bottle (picture: Lonestar Memories: minimalistic old design)

So here’s the plan:We have the old, minimalistic design, the new prototype flacon picture, and I will come up with yet another new design the next couple of days. Thanks to Vladimir, I think it will be somethink like a silhouette or a shadow thing.

Thus, stay tuned for the poll and in the mean time… enjoy the discussions on basenotes. Ah and yes: The new camera is fun.
and here is my first picture….

Dear Andy, yes minimalistic old design - is very very simple and minimalistic, but I also think, that silhouette the cowboy is very rectilinearly, for such perfume. How it is possible to represent Memories? At everyone the associations are born and it is very difficult problem for graphic and for business. It is similar to how to name person or else face to the child - to its all life. I shall bear to speak with artists and to backs it him questions, after snorting. I wish you inspiration and it is successful to find decisions.

    Andy,
My opinion is: keep it simple - no cows, no boys, no girls, no permutations.

Andy–I like the bottle the way it is (said in a wheedling, whining kindof voice)…

I agree wholeheartedly with Vladimir…but then, it is your perfume, and it’s ultimately your decision. The juice will be the juice, no matter what the bottle looks like :)

  4. Andy Says:

    Dear Arhianrad
Thank you! And the juice will be the juice. This is, why I like the idea of making a poll next week or so! I would never make a poll on how to create a perfume. But a poll on how the bottle should be labelled: Why not! And I can combine this with a price give away thing!
    Dear Jivko
Hmmmm…no barock thing? Nothing pompöös? See
here for a more barock flacon…. hehehe
    Dear Vladimir
Very thoughtful of you. I will see that I find some inspirations… have a nice evening

I must be honest with you Andy - I am a graphic designer, and would prefer no image, and a more interesting font. If forced to use an image, personally, I would prefer a company logo of some sort, and the name of the frag. And that’s it. The juice really is the most important thing, and nothing should detract from it. If the image is not perfect, it is distracting. And for some people, it may be off-putting. Luckily, you have lots of fans who are perfumistas and wouldn’t care if you used old soda bottles as packaging.

    You know..
    Kathy’s got something.
I like her idea best, so far.
But I like your sox BEST.

  7. Andy Says:

    Dear Kathy
I just pulished an alternative to soda bottles… Thank you for your thoughts, from a professional point of view! I appreciate a lot, and I think you have made a very good point there.
Dear Chayruchama, greetings from above the sox…

I very much like the designs for L’air, Le Maroc (the new design), and Orris. They are for me near perfect. Not so much Reverie, due to the literalism I noted in my other post (not sure photos work all that well for marketing juice). But Reverie works better than the “literal” cowboy image, I think, because of the mystery and ambiguity of the image: erotic, innocent, and fresh. The cowboy image is a specific person and the observer finds himself wondering more about the person than about the juice. That’s why I suggested some sort of silhouette to abstract the cowboy image, if you’re going to use an image at all. But I see Kathy’s point, the bottle with a new font and no image would be nice, too!

    High Vasily
I just finished a silhouette and a font based design! Now…trying to get the poll to work!
Thank you by the way for your compliments on the l’air design. The way there was about 2 weeks thinking and not coming to any point, and then -one moment- the drawing was done in 5 min…
Once the poll works, this is going to be thrilling!
