ghost writer and the sex thing
I need a ghost writer. Desperately. You know the sample flyer’s design, with a picture on the front side (Orris was featuring a visual interpretation by the artist Sands Murray-Wassink) and a fading colour in the back with some EU declarations and a white area with a few words. For the orris I was lucky enough to come across Sands’ perfect sentence. Having a couple of ideas in my head but none really there yet…. I have these flashbacks, 35 or more years back, Sunday school, “Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” (Matthew 5)
Earlier and rather naively I thought this meant that we are supposed to only say yes or no and I always thought that’s kind of tough but would be a nice change to a world drowning in blabla, at least for a day or two… it might allow us to heal somewhat. The same is true for writing. Imagine…. posts like “yes”. Maybe with a title allowing to guess what the post is all about. Thus we would have: “Orris, yes”. Or “tuttifrutti no”. Cool. It sure would help to cope with the ever increasing wave of blogs that all interesting and come up with posts I want to read …sorry fellow bloggers….
“Yes or no”, would also solve my writing problem with the flyer for the samples and the packaging….yes…. that would be simple. On the other hand something like “a dream between day and night, earth and sky, … ” is somewhat more romantic. Well, as I have said… I need to do some thinking there. Definitely, yes.
Now, I am grown up and know that Mr. J. back then on the hill had something else in mind. He knows us human beings quite well, I guess, thus he knows that our oaths will never last, we tend to forget about them, thus: just don’t do it. …. The same day he mentioned something about zero tolerance concerning affairs (adultery) which is rather harsh. I think we need to negotiate a better deal there. Well, at least we are not asked to tear our nose off the face. Which brings me to the end of this post, answering a question by Kelly in his comment of yesterday. I am somewhat liberal and follow the line “personal freedom to do things stops there where it takes away the freedom of others”. What is within this area is ok. This is true for perfuming oneself. As long as you do it in reasonable limits, anything goes. Just do it.
Would my mods of yesterday be considered as women’s scent? Yes.

Brilliant answer to my strange question. Thank you. I do own and wear several fragrances marketed to women. Although, I have to admit the the scents I wear are more “unisex” than floral. I love Fleurs de Bulgarie by Creed and Hermes’ Eau des Merveilles, which are primarily ambergris scents.
I have a huge jasmine vine growing in the back yard and it started to bloom this week. In fact, it is covered with hundreds of blooms. Yesterday, I picked a small cluster and put them in my shirt pocket and I could smell the wonderful, indolic floral….drug all day! Why don’t I try more floral scents? Hmmm. I am going to have to think about this.
Thanks again Andy.

Andy,
Most interesting meditation on that verse from Scripture. And while I’m fully convinced that our mortal oaths often become no more than a handful of dust at the end of all things, I look at that verse from a different angle. It’s about honesty, not sugarcoating the truth or phrasing a NO as a YES or vice versa. For example, someone is called into their manager’s office and is told that they’ve done nothing wrong but they need to pack up their desk and that this is their last day. So the employee asks “are you canning me?” and the manager, rather than simply stating the truth with a “Yes”….. blathers on about how they are working to “right-size” the corporate structure or are streamlining processes…. never once addressing the actual question. So, I take that verse as more of a call for plain-spoken honesty.

I’ve found the distinction between “male” and “female” perfumes rather artificial … what makes one spice-and-woods scent for men, another for women, and a third unisex? A lot of times it boils down to marketing, it would seem. As for me, I like most florals on others but have found I prefer not to wear them myself (with the exception perhaps of neroli)… Orris was absolutely breathtaking, but it’s just not me. I love roses, but prefer smelling them in the garden or on other people. Same with leather fragrances … I believe Lonestar Memories is a real work of art and I like it on others, but I can’t wear it. So it’s more a matter of personal preference than gender appropriateness, I think.
As for Mr. J and adultery, as I understand it the Romans had a very casual attitude toward divorce and increasingly this attitude was creeping into the Jewish community. His stand toward adultery could be interpreted as a radical statement in favor of the rights of women in marriage (he broke many cultural and religious taboos with regard to women, treating his female followers as equal to his male followers - a point that’s missed by a few of his followers today, unfortunately).

Yes, you can cite the Bible, but no, it doesn’t make life easier. No, I don’t understand poetic marketing, but Yes, it does work. So, yes it is confusing, but No-body cares.

Dear Vasily
Excellent point on the women’s taboos. Indeed, a point that is unfortunately missed by some followers still today! and what you mentioned on the personal preference: I 100% agree!
Dear Fragrant Funster
Sometimes, it is just so hard to be plain honest. I think it is -as often in life- a matter of balance and listening to one’s heart and look at the person sitting opposite to you or on the other side of the computer. I asked W. how he interpreted yes and no in the Matthew context et voilĂ : He came up with your line of argumentation! Greetings from a guy who has sometimes troubles being plain-honest ;-)
Dear Jivko
Yes, right you are.
Dear Kelly
Thank you for the flowers. I remember being in Egypt. Every evening I would pick one Jasmin flower and place it on top of the bed…indol dreams! Greetings and fragrant jasmine dreams to you!

Hi
I can’t be bothered with anything these days, but shrug. I just don’t have anything to say recently.
Bye
