broken things, ER and wish 1

Biological systems are buffered. Which is nice as it allows us to dump stuff into biological systems that might ultimately harm them without much effect initially. Like dumping soap into rivers. Or ethanol into human bodies. The problem with buffered systems is the turning point, when the buffering capacity is used up in a sense. Often, we unfortunately do not know where this turning point is until we have cross it. What you witness then is the abrupt change into another state, that might again be buffered, but looks different. Like foaming rivers, or human bodies lying under the table.
There are other things in human bodies that may break, and it looks like a 42 year old bone of mine reached the limit of what it could stand and decided to give it up. At least partially. That’s what the x-ray said.
I had the pleasure to visit my local hospital’s emergency room, which is less hectic compared to what you see in the TV soaps… no drama, no nothing! Just me with my foot, a drunk lady with a flattened nose, an old lady with heart problems and another lady with a broken knee after a Tango with her husband. Well, you guess right: I was there January 1st and I felt better the moment I was in the emergency room. Anyway: After an hour or so, I got my x-ray, tried to explain the doctor that I really did nothing else than just jogging, just started running as a matter of fact, and pling! the bone went and the pain came. She diagnosed a little break of third metatarsal that will not need a cast, just some time…
All this had a few side aspects that turned out to be positive: Staying at home, enjoying the couch, turning papers and formulas upside down, closing the books for 2006 and inspecting the fragrance that is built around lavender in the head note.

Which brings me to the last point of this post: Wishes for 2007……Wish number 1: Always look for the positive side of things!

more about things in perspective of 2007 and wishes tomorrow.

Oh, Andy - so sorry to hear that - hope that you get back to work soon (I mean, I might be commiting the fundamenal attribution error thinking that not going to work is bad) OR enjoy the calm atmosphere of your home with your perfumes. How long will the recovery be?

  2. Heather Says:

Mend quickly Andy - take it a bit easier

    Heather

  3. Leopoldo Says:

Thinking of you from underneath the wrappings of my blankets. I hope the foot is not too tender. Bodies, eh?

Get well soon, prince of perfume.

  4. Jenny Says:

Oh my Andy, hope you’re not in pain. Good for your health huh jogging…… Well like you said look at the positve side and try to enjoy your time at home a little.
Happy new year although it started a bit bad.

BTW I hope this message will be posted it seems that it sometimes don’t work, last week I tried several times to post but it didn’t work. Am I the only one with this problem?

    Jenny

  5. Andy Says:

    Dear Leopoldo
I hope you are still inside the blankets because you have a day off and not because you are sick! yea…bodies…not built for eternity. But I think 40 years is already not too bad. My SAAB is in its 10th or so and things start to break down already now!
Dear Heather… of course: Today is easy day…in the office but nevertheless easy. Getting through a jungle of spam without developing neurotic defects…
Dear Konstantin… I am already in the office. At least today! I wanted my ultra-super-fast internet connection to download my spam more quickly…. I hope to be up and “running” again in a couple of days. Running in the sense of straight back and one leg after the other. The jogging will a take a while, though.

    Dear heart-

Feet take a LOT of abuse, I understand completely [both feet were fractured by a doctor years ago
accidentally] while we were resuscitating someone- last January, I had surgery for it].

Having patience with our physical selves is very difficult, but necessary.
Until recently, I never realized that most folks had never seen me actually WALK- all I do is DASH.
    That surprised me…

So, you do what you must, oh secretly stubborn, restless charmer, you.
You KNOW that the body [unlike the tongue] doesn’t lie.
You push too hard, and it will push right back.

Rest up, and focus on other things.

    Love you !

Oucchhhh - poor you. But on the other hand, now is the time when you can lay on the couch and make W do all your biddings LOL.
And what a great oportunity to just lay there and fantasise up new and exiting perfumes for the futre.
    Mend well - stay well.
    HUGS,
    Ylva

  8. Marina Says:

    Dear Andy,
I hope you feel better soon! Ack, not a good way to start the year. I hope with this you paid your dues to the bad stuff and there is only good stuff ahead :-)

  9. Anya Says:

Ay, makes all my mommy instincts come out. I’d be stuffing you with sauerkraut and other comfort foods, making comfrey poultices to speed the healing, spritzing your favor scents into the air, bringing fresh magazines….hugs to you, Andy.

PS hope you got my private email the other day. My mail server has been going “out” frequently.

  10. Andy Says:

    My dear Ylva
Thank you… it is not so bad at all! I still went slowly to the office and tried to establish a couch feeling there. W. on the other hand is for sure a great help! Always is.
    Dear Marina
That’s the spirit and might be my wish number 2: Only good stuff ahead!
    Dear Anya
Thank you. Even if you are not around, I will do some spritzing tonight…Frankincense will feel good, that’s for sure! The Sauerkraut however has to wait until the weekend…and the mail did not arrive so far ( I think)

    Andy,
This has now become the time for you to rest and plan for 2007. The forced downtime could be just what you need. See…I’m being positive!

  12. Prince Barry Says:

Poor dear Andy. I will have to send you some Reiki healing.

    Barry

  13. Cait Says:

    Dear Andy,
I am hoping that you heal as quick as a wink. Happy New Year! I started mine dreaming lavender dreams thanks to the soap you sent and wrote about it on Legerdenez. Thank you! I can’t wait to try the perfume when you complete it.
    Happy New Year.
    Cait

  14. Andy Says:

Dear Sharon…I am very positive, too! And had a wonderful evening yesterday. One hast to fight physical boundaries!
    Dear Prince
