Momo

Momo is nice. He works for DHL, drives around in Zurich with his yellow car and brings me parcels. Usually, I am not at home. Then Momo has to leave a yellow paper with numbers that I hardly ever can read, telling me that he was here, and I spend an evening, trying to get through on the phone and get a line, listening to endless repetitions of how important my call is. Sometimes I wonder, why I have to wait so long if my call is important. But then, after a while, I get through and , like yesterday, I talk to nice people, tell them that Momo was here and I wasn’t. We then try to figure out the numbers on Momo’s piece of paper and ask him to come back again. With every visit by Momo, I realize that the bottle neck in globalization is the final delivery to my house….
Today Momo brought me 4×20 kg of paper;and he helped me bring it all downstairs (amazing how heavy paper can be). Momo really is nice. The paper comes in many boxes, a pile standing in the living room right now, waiting to be distributed. It is a leporello featuring everything about Morocco…perfumes, travel, calligraphy, handicrafts and more. We will do some experiments with it. One being a mailing in one quarter of Zurich, to see whether we can interest potential clients. I am now a proud member of the businesses that fill up your letterbox …

The leporello design is by Tauer, the content by the four of us, travel=Brahim Tours, calligraphy=Daniel Reichenbach, handicrafts=Medieval art&vie and perfumes…well I guess you know.
Thank you Momo.

    Thank you, Momo !
EVERY home should have a MoMo…

And whilst your parcel has arrived, i’m waiting patiently (okay, let’s be honest, not so patiently) for Orris to arrive… Meanwhile, a smaller package from Zurich got here this morning. And wow.

Andy - you will shortly receive an email. i’ll try to avoid a reverential tone.

    Dear Chayaruchama
Especially now, shortly before Christmas, a Momo comes in quite handy!
    Dear Leopoldo
I am rushing out of the house, but got your mail, read it and… and wow!, too. More later…

Oh Andy! My Orris arrived today! It’s everything I thought it would be and so much more! The beauty of this fragrance is impossible to describe. Thank you for creating such a beautiful breathtaking fragrance. You are amazing!

I think it’s great that you can take the delivery situation with such aplomb. Finding one of those slips from UPS or Fed-Ex at my house makes me practically grind my teeth to nubs.

    Not that that helps anything,

    Dear Sharon
Thank you very much…let’s put it that way: Some of the ingredients are truly amazing. I am just putting things together.
    Dear Tom
I guess I am getting old….I used to get a high blood pressure, heavy heart beating and more symptoms of accute stress when I got these yellow DHL notes. Now I am old and sit on the banks of the river, watch things flow down and I know, that sooner or later, my parcel will be delivered. And , by the way, Momo with his smile helps, too.

Oh Andy, those mailers look just lovely… and such a nice alternative to getting packets of coupons you’ll never use or “urgent” offers for credit from companies you’ve never heard of. I think they will be very enticing to the folks that get them in the mail. I am guessing these will be folded like brochures, yes?

I miss my old UPS (another delivery company here in the US) guy… he noticed my last name, and after some talk we figured out that we’re distantly related!! My family took a detour through Ukraine to get to the US, while his came over directly from Germany. So funny the connections we can make with folks like Momo, even though their jobs are supposed to always be “on the go.”

  8. Andy Says:

    Dear Katie
Thank you! The are indeed to be folded, twice. I was just visiting Pascal in the shop and we realized that folding some 2500 leporellos will mean some happy folding hours for us (and Marianna, who helps him out in the shop)…..
