O like ohhhhhhh

OLikeOrrisO like ohhhhh….. I got so many mails the last few weeks that I am still worrying not having answered them all. I hope I did.

Orris was the subject in many of these mails and the mails were flattering and touching. I felt like a little boy playing with matches in the garden and realizing that “Wow”, I can light a fire. And this for sure feels good. I sit next to the fire watching it, see the smoke rising and think about how to conquer the world. When lighting this match I did not really think too much about what I was doing. Thus, the fire came as a surprise.
When reading the mails I knew what I had to do. I decided a couple of weeks ago, but wanted to check one last issue before sending the message out. Yesterday, I finally had the last  point settled for myself. Lucky me.

Orris will be produced. Not as a regular product, though. I do not want to overdo things. It will be made available before Christmas, for sure on my site, and I am confident that it will be available on my suppliers sites, too. I want it to be affordable, thus, I will make 30 ml bottles, and the price will be reasonable. I hope it will turn out properly. I will make some 200 bottles of it and then we will see. The future will tell how we go on from there.

On my way to the kitchen, preparing dinner yesterday evening, I remembered my one and only royal on my mailing list. Hence, I figured out that my dear prince is the best person to announce this news. Here you find the official royal announcement.

Orris, believe me, troubled me, still does in a way, and I thank you all for your mails and comments that were full of appreciation and of love.

Ohhhh….I´m so glad about your decision, dear Andy. I´ve read about the Orris on different blogs, never seeing the chance to have this! And it sounds sooo me….now you answered the prayers:))).

  2. Konstantin Says:

  5. Anya Says:

How gratifying that the people voted and you are propelled forward to manufacure Orris, even in a limited edition. The internet sure can do wonders for a perfumer!

  6. Leopoldo Says:

Brilliant news Andy! There’s nothing wrong with being troubled by a creation - you’re a proper father to that perfume! Put me on your pre-order list prontisimo.

It’s brilliant that people are so impressed by this scent Andy.

    How thrilling- and brave…

Very few of us are ever content with our work, but clearly you are on the right track here.
I am such an adorer of the notes you have used here- please add me to a pre-order list, if one is burgeoning…

Leonard Cohen has a marvellous point of view for pondering, regarding our need for perfection:

“Ring out the bells that still can ring-
    Forget your perfect offering-
There is a crack in everything-
That’s how the light gets in…”

    Just so, don’t you think?

Congratulations on your new ‘baby’ !

Be still the steel ingot that is my heart! Just when I thought thoughtfulness of our fiscal considerations was all be dead; here you come with your sweet talk about accesability. You are a dangerous man - very very dangerous. I approve of this. Look forward to perhaps purchasing this Iris (a favored bit of essences tuberous - as opposed to tuberose - loveliness) does not major pecuniary crises occur between now and release.

  10. Andy Says:

Dear commenters….thank you all very much! For your support and for your enthousiasm
And Lisa: I can assure you… I am absolutely innocent and not dangerous at all. No perfumer lion, more like a perfumer sheep…

  11. dinazad Says:

Hallelujah! This news certainly put that extra glitter and shine one an otherwise not really remarkable day! I, too, would like to join the pre-order list - unless orris will be available in the Zurich shop?
As for the not quite perfect - where (and when) was it that embroiderers purposely added “mistakes” to their work, since perfection was for God alone? :-) It is the seeming imperfection that makes things shine….

  12. Andy Says:

Dear Dinazad….of course, it will be available in the Zurich shop (and hopefully also in the shops of all my distributors! Have a fragrant day

  13. chayaruchama Says:

    Oh, Andy-

    Dinazad knows !
And no Aquarian ever born resembled a sheep in any form- but IF you did, you would have to watch out for me…especially if you had a sweet little black face [my favorite kind !] . And you probably wouldn’t be safe from Ayala, or Anya, or Luccia…

  14. dinazad Says:

LOL! Looks like our perfumer sheep has his little herd all wrapped around his figurative finger…… those innocent, sweet little guys and their unmapped depths….

  15. Andy Says:

    hehehehe…..

  16. Dianne Says:

I received a sample and loved the scent. Please put me on your pre-order list.

  17. March Says:

Andy, I am SO thrilled. I am going to go put some on just to celebrate. It is stunning.

  18. moon_fish Says:

    Dear Andy!
I hope I`ll be alone with this note about Orris - but to me that scent has a marvellous beginning (with all that Rose, Orris, Oud notes, etc. mixing together, but not in any order) - and THEN POOOH! Only Rose and Iso-amylsalicylate remains.
It`s just unfair!!! So many beauty in the start - and too little revived…

Anyway - I`m glad that you have enough admirers of this scent. Maybe it`s just my tricky skin…

  19. Andy Says:

    Dear Moon_Fish
I’ve got the solution for you: You just have to spray the perfume on, and wash it off after 10 min to re-apply again….hehehe just kidding. Such a pity. I know that you like some of my others and I wished this one would fit with you, too. Well, interesting that you get iso-amylsalicylate and rose only as remaining scent, because there is not such a lot of iso-…. in it. Be it: This one’s not for you…. how sad.

  20. BBliss Says:

    Dear Andy,
I’m late to the spectacular news! So glad this will be produced - it really is very, very special. Thank you once again for sharing this fragrance - I can’t wait to use it with abandon!
    All the best,
    Catherine

  21. eelriverrose Says:

Oh dear, I have come late to the party! All the noses I trust are swooning over Orris, and I can only spin olfactory fantasies based on the notes and their lyrical descriptions. Will there any possibility of buying or obtaining a sample of Orris in time to snatch up a bottle? One thing that I treasure about your scents, Andy, is their depth and density, while still maintaining a quality of light, breath and flowing development. Indeed, they are like the best music, which grounds us more fundamentally to the earth and our bodies, and yet releases us to the transcendent. Thank you! Susan

  22. Andy Says:

    Dear Eelriverrose
Thank you very much for your comment, too. You are not too late for the party. Well, the first one you might have missed…but there will a party 2.0, in mid November, with samples, for sure! Thus, jus a few more weeks. Thank you for your appreciation of my fragrances. Feels good.

  23. Christina Says:

I’ve read much about you over the last several weeks, and wondered what all the fuss was about. Well, I purchased some samples…and I now see what all the fuss is about, and what I have been missing. Beautiful, complex, completely distinctive and evocative fragrances…immediately purchased Le Maroc (didn’t know I could purchase directly from you,) which I am sniffing as I write this. I have absolutely no doubt that I will adore Orris, not just because of the lyrical reviews from those lucky enough to have received samples, but from the notes, as I understand them. Don’t even feel a need to sample first…please put me on your “pre-order” list, if you have one. November, normally such a dreary time in the midwest US, is suddenly looking brighter.

    Sincerely, a new devotee, Christina

  24. Andy Says:

    Dear Christina
Wow! What a comment! I am touched. Seriously.
I do not really have a pre-order list (just a folder where I download mails like yours). There will be enough of the Orris, I am sure. I am touched that you expect so much from the Orris, and believe me: Here in Switzerland November can also be such a grey, depressive month. I have already started working with my favourrite sunny flower scents like Orange flower, to cope with decreasing day length and temperatures…..
Fragrant greetings to you and a sincere thank you.

  25. eelriverrose Says:

I’ve been thinking, dreaming and scheming about Orris for weeks now. Even if you don’t have a pre-order list, put me on the one that isn’t there, just in case, OK?! Speaking of orange flower — I’d really love to see what you could do with that one! It seems like such a difficult scent to capture without turning it either completely frivolous (which it is not) or thick and leaden (which defies its nature). Best of autumn to you!
